Highlights of the 2019-2020 season include tours with the Vienna Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as guest appearances with the Boston, Dallas and Prague Symphonies, Berlin Staatskapelle, and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. In his fifth season as Artist-in-Residence of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, he tours with the ensemble to China and Korea, and recently premiered Avner Dorman’s Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, written for Zukerman and cellist Amanda Forsyth. Subsequent performances of the important new work take place at Tanglewood with the Boston Symphony, Ottawa with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, where Zukerman serves as Conductor Emeritus, and with the Israel Philharmonic. In chamber music, he travels with the Zukerman Trio for performances throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia, and joins longtime friend and collaborator Daniel Barenboim for a cycle of the complete Beethoven Sonatas for Violin and Piano, presented in a three-concert series in Berlin.
A devoted teacher and champion of young musicians, he has served as chair of the Pinchas Zukerman Performance Program at the Manhattan School of Music for over 25 years, and has taught at prominent institutions throughout the United Kingdom, Israel, China and Canada, among others. As a mentor he has inspired generations of young musicians who have achieved prominence in performing, teaching, and leading roles with music festivals around the globe. Mr. Zukerman has received honorary doctorates from Brown University, Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and the University of Calgary, as well as the National Medal of Arts from President Ronald Reagan. He is a recipient of the Isaac Stern Award for Artistic Excellence in Classical Music.

Amanda Forsyth's career has included collaborations with many eminent artists including Yefim Bronfman, Lynn Harrell, Joseph Kalichstein, Jaime Laredo, Louis Lortie, Yo-Yo Ma, Garrick Ohlsson, John Kimura Parker, Arnold Steinhardt, Michael Tree and Pinchas Zukerman. She has worked with many esteemed conductors such as Lawrence Foster, Alan Gilbert, Bernhard Gueller, James Judd, Oliver Knussen, Roberto Minczuk, Mikhail Pletnev, and Bramwell Tovey, among others.
Ms. Forsyth performed with the Colorado and Grand Rapids Symphonies and toured with the Dallas Symphony in both Texas and on its tour of Florida and with the Oregon Symphony. Overseas, she performs frequently with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Radio de France and toured with London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra through Spain and made her debut at the Moscow Conservatory in 2009 returning with the Moscow Virtuosi in both Moscow and St Petersburg in 2011. She has had frequent engagements with Lisbon’s Gulbenkian Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra including their summer tour of Mediterranean island venues in 2011. Her performances with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra earned critical acclaim. She returned to China for performances in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sichuan, Shenyang and Beijing.
Amanda Forsyth plays each summer at Ravinia as well as The Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona Italy where she has appeared as both soloist and in chamber concerts on several occasions at each venue.
Recitals in Toronto, Ottawa, Mumbai, China, Moscow and Chicago and a series of performances and master classes in Duisburg, Germany were received with success. In January 2012 her recital in Edmonton was dedicated to the passing of her late father Dr. Malcolm Forsyth.
With the Zukerman Chamber Players she visited Germany, Israel, Italy, Finland, Holland, Switzerland, New Zealand, Turkey, Warsaw, Yerevan, Belgrade, Budapest, Dubrovnik, Vienna, and the United Kingdom, performed for the Petra Conference for Nobel Laureates in Jordan and embarked on several South American tours. In addition, the ensemble has an ongoing series at the 92nd Street Y in New York. Amanda Forsyth appeared for eight seasons as a guest artist at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival.
Most recently she had return engagements with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, New York and Florida, appeared with the English Chamber Orchestra in Azerbaijan also touring through Europe with them and with the Gulbenkian Symphony Orchestra, Madison Symphony Orchestras and San Diego Symphony.
Other performances in the next short period will include the Orchestre National de Montpellier, a tour through Europe and a first appearance in Munich, Germany. In May 2011 after the Japanese earthquake disaster she appeared at the Miyazaki Festival in gala fundraising concerts. Ms. Forsyth will return to Miyazaki in May 2012.
Born in South Africa, Ms. Forsyth moved to Canada as a child and began playing cello at age three. She became a protégé of William Pleeth in London, and later studied with Harvey Shapiro at the Juilliard School. After two seasons with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra she became the youngest principal ever selected by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra—a post she occupied for six years.
Amanda Forsyth’s recordings appear on the Sony Classics, Naxos, Altara, Fanfare, Marquis, Pro Arte and CBC labels.
In 2002, Amanda Forsyth was the subject of the Bravo! Canada television documentary Amanda Rising: The Amanda Forsyth Story. The program followed Ms. Forsyth's life from her early years as a young South African immigrant to her later success on the international music scene.
Ms. Forsyth was featured prominently on Wynton Marsalis' soundtrack for Ken Burns' The War, a widely-acclaimed World War II documentary filmed for PBS.
